A 27-year-old trader has been sent to prison for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.
Rape is a serious crime
Lucky Bassey, a 27-year-old
trader resident on Akilo Street, Bariga, Lagos State, will curse his
insatiable sex appetite which has landed him in trouble after he was nabbed for allegedly raping his neighbour's 12-year-old daughter in the toilet.
Reports have it that the young victim, a primary six pupil,
was using the toilet on Monday, May 25, 2015, in the general compound
where Bassey lives with her parents, when he forced the door open and
raped her.
The Akwa Ibom State born Bassey, who is
now in the Kirikiri Prison pending when his case will be heard in
court, could have not have been caught but for the mother of the girl
who noticed that she walked awkwardly when she came out of the toilet
and when she was asked why she walked with pains, she confessed that
'Brother' Bassey had defiled her.
The mother of
the girl who is from the same hometown with the suspect, quickly
informed other tenants who apprehended the suspect and reported the case
at the Bariga Police Division and he was arrested.
The
victim's mother informed that after the rape, the girl bled for a week
and was rushed to a general hospital in the state where she was treated
before the bleeding stopped.
The victim, when she
was interrogated, told the police that Bassey had sex with her while
standing and when he was done, he threatened to deal while her if she
told anyone what he did to her.
She said:
“I
was in the toilet on Monday, May 25, around 8 pm, when I heard a knock
on the door. I told the person at the other side that I was using the
toilet. But brother Bassey forced the door open and closed my mouth to
stop me from shouting.
We were both standing when he raped me. He said I should not tell my mother about it or he would deal with me."
The
result of some tests conducted on the girl, which was presented to the
police, showed that there was a forceful penetration into her private
parts 'which affected her clitoris and labia majora.'
