The Copa America 2015 has a serious story off the pitch in what comes as shocking news for hosts Chile.
Reports from Chile confirm star midfielder Arturo Vidal has crashed his Ferrari in Santiago, whilst driving under the influence of alcohol.
The pictures above and below tell their own story. This comes with Vidal having scored three goals in two games for Chile and surely at the peak of his playing powers after a fantastic season with Juventus.
Chilean national police spokesman Colonel Ricardo Gonzalez confirmed “The driver of the red vehicle was under the influence of alcohol.”
Vidal sustained minor injuries and is being held by police until facing a local judge.
AP add that Vidal “crashed the vehicle when he was driving with his wife on a highway south of the Chilean capital on their way back from a casino.”
Vidal has already taken to Twitter to confirm: “Unfortunately I was involved in a traffic accident, luckily we are all well and calm. Thanks for worrying.”
There are now serious suggestions that Arturo Vidal has played his final game of the 2015 Copa America.
