A man has been arrested in Ogun State for allagedly kidnapping a 90-year-old man
Emeka Obi, 40, has been arrested
by the Ogun State Police Command for the alleged kidnapping of a
nonagenarian, Iposiola Samaiye.
The state Police
Commissioner, Valentine Ntomchukwu, who paraded the suspect on Wednesday
at the State Headquarters, said
Obi and members of his gang had
kidnapped Pa Samaiye from his home at Ijebu-Esure last Thursday, and
demanded a ransom of N20 million.
Valaentine said,
“They held the 97-year-old man inside the bush without food for four
days. But our men, through tracking between 3am and 5am this morning
(Tuesday), were able to arrest them and set the old man free.”
Emeka's accomplice, simply known as Prince, escaped capture.
Pa Samaiye is currently receiving medical attention at a private hospital in Ijebu Ode.
His
son, Obafemi, who spoke to newsmen at the hospital, said the kidnappers
had demanded N20 million ransom, which was negotiated downward first to
10 million and later N1 million.
He said: “The
kidnappers first demanded for N20 million, later it was negotiated to
N10 million and later N1million. But we did not pay any ransom before my
father was freed by the policemen.”
Ntomchukwu
warned kidnappers, cultists and other criminal-minded individuals to
leave the state, stressing that they would be smoked out to face the
full weight of the law, should they fail to heed his warning.
Speaking
with newsmen, the suspect, who is a member of kidnapping syndicate
operating in Ijebu axis, said his accomplice, Prince, had gone into
hiding.
