Drake And Apple Are Reportedly Working On A $19 Million Deal. READ MORE

Drake

Apple’s looking to up the ante in the stream wars, as they’re reportedly looking to bring Drake on board along with other artists. To do so, they’re ready to offer Drizzy a handsome price… a reported $19 million deal, per the New York Post. They’re not looking to fork out Dr. Dre money, but the sum’s nothing to scoff at, either.

Drake would come on board as “a guest DJ for iTunes Radio,” as well as assume other roles if the two sides can strike a deal. According to the Post‘s sources, Pharrell and David Guetta are two other artists mentioned as having similar talks with the tech giant.

What exactly a guest DJ isn’t exactly known yet, but don’t expect an exclusive video stream of Aubrey manning the ones and twos, but he and other artists will factor heavily in Apple’s plans to relaunch iTunes Radio soon.

Coincidentally, Drake nearly joined rival service Tidal until Jimmy Iovine came through at the last minute, according to Billboard’s Andrew Hampp in a recent talk with Bloomberg Business.

“Apple has incredible marketing spend and brand power. Whenever they launch a new product, they go big. They’re spending a minimum of $100 million that first month,” said Hampp. “

Tidal spent maybe $10 million marketing itself. There’s also the fact Jimmy Iovine has directly gone after all the artists who were supposed to be involved with Tidal. Drake was literally a Tidal partner until two days before the launch. Then he mysteriously disappeared.”

Apple’s been working hard recently to iron out deals with labels to secure licensing deals. They’re expected to announce the arrival of the Beats-powered music service at their developer’s conference held June 8-12 in San Francisco.

Update: Count Drake and Pharrell both in for sure, according to Billboard. Sources close to negotiations say both artists are locked in Apple’s upcoming launch.
