SPORT NEWS: Manchester City Prepared to Sack Manuel Pellegrini Before End of Season.. READ HERE>>>>

Manchester United v Manchester City - Premier League

Manchester City are prepared to part ways with manager Manuel Pellegrini before the end of the season if their results put them in danger of losing their Champions League place, reported the Guardian.

The Chilean has seen his side lose four of their last six Premier League games and misery was compounded on Sunday as local rivals Manchester United comfortably beat them 4-2 at Old Trafford.

Following Liverpool's win over Newcastle on Monday night, City now lie fourth with just a four point lead over Brendan Rodgers' side. Both have six games to play, with City facing West Ham at home this coming weekend. A further slump could put the Premier League champions in danger of missing out on the top four altogether.

Should that move closer to happening, the City hierarchy plan to replace Pellegrini with elite development squad coach Patrick Vieira. It is reported that that time could even come as soon as the weekend - should City fail to beat the Hammers at the Etihad.

Pellegrini looks destined to leave the club anyway at some point, but the question of when still remains unanswered. There had been will on the part of the club to keep him in the role until the end of next season, though their run of taking 15 points from 12 matches since New Year's Day - when they were joint top with Chelsea - has raised concerns.

City are looking to employ Pep Guardiola as their new manager, but given his contract runs until the end of next season the current Bayern Munich boss is set to be difficult to attract until he's out of contract at the very least. Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti - who is rumoured to be leaving the club at the end of the season - could be another option long-term.
