A new device which can sense abnormal changes in human body and create an alert, will be soon introduced at important places, especially at the airport, to detect trafficking.
The device, invented by Captain Ali Al M Rashed, Head of Security Technology Unit of Lekhwiya, will be initially fixed for a trial.
The device, which was developed in nine months, can detect and analyse abnormal behaviour in human beings, especially by scanning their eyes. However, the actual reason behind the behaviour has to be found out by investigations.
The 'Smart Security Investigation System' can sense psychological reactions by analysing changes in the eyes and body temperature of a person.
"The device is a new system which works according to algorithm and detects criminals, terrorists, and drug users. This device is a new addition to the security system and has been registered at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, as an intellectual property," said Captain Rashed while addressing a press conference at the Hamad International Airport yesterday.
The device will be used for random checks on people at places like the airport, important conferences and sports events. The experimental scans with the device will be held in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and Supreme Council of Health.
"Hamad International Airport is one of the main destinations through which many people come into the country and 'Smart Security Investigation System' will be used there in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior," said Captain Rashed.
"When someone behaves different, looks confused or suspicious, we would decide to check the person. Also, when we do random checks, the device will identify the person if he is abnormal. But only after investigation we will ascertain if he is a criminal or has health problems," he said.
Although the accuracy of the 'Smart Security Investigation System' could be only ascertained after the device is experimented, Captain Rashed says that it would act as a helpful mechanism to identify criminals.
Captain Rashed is an engineer from Qatar University. He completed his Masters at the Liverpool University, specialising in radiation and robotic work and has more than ten years of experience on the field of information technology.
