Chairman of the Okwagbe Distillers Union, Mr. Samuel Egedegbe, reacting to the NAFDAC ban, said that distilled gin does not kill.

Various brands of gin patronised in Nigeria.

Following the ban on ogogoro announced by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Okwagbe Distillers Union, Delta State, makers of ogogoro have appealed to the Federal Government not to ban the production of their brand of alcohol.

Chairman of the union, Mr. Samuel Egedegbe, reacting to the NAFDAC ban, said that distilled gin does not kill, instead "it is the Ogogoro produced from methanol that kills.”

Egedegbe explained that their “distilled gin” is produced from palm wine derived from raffia palm or liquefied sugar mixed with yeast and well cooked before distilling the gin.

He further said that their brand of gin goes through a scientific distillation process while methanol isn't produced in factories,  no do they cook before distilling their gin, "rather, they only mix the methanol with water in their houses and automatically they have produced gin inside their bedrooms."
