Ashafa, in an acceptance speech, dedicated the victory to his constituents, describing the victory as a call “to serve more. I’m overwhelmed by your gesture and accept your mandate to represent Lagos East.”
The lawmaker noted that he won about 60 per cent of the total votes “cast at the just concluded senatorial election. With deep sense of responsibility and renewed call to duty, I accept the challenge to serve you better for another four years.”
According to Ashfa the electorate “have become more assertive and should not be taken for granted any longer. The electorate want us to move beyond political bickering. They want us to get out of our political gridlock. They want us to make sure to get the job done and actually lead.”
He pledged to use the opportunity his reelection offered “to monitor closely in this time of austerity and commit to a more flexible and workable transportation policy so that we can fix our roads and other infrastructure.”
Ashafa assured that he would use his re-election “to reform grey areas in our tax system so that companies can actually get the incentives they deserve and bring their jobs back home rather sending them abroad. I will also make sure that the young people are not crushed by the weight of unemployment, lack of power supply and adequate security.
