Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy shrugged off an alarming fall from a stage where he was about to present Melbourne Victory with the A-League trophy at the conclusion of the grand final at AAMI Park on Sunday night.

The 84-year-old stumbled on the raised, temporary structure on the field and pitched about a metre-and-a-half head-first into the turf at the end of the match. Medics tended to him as celebrations in the 29,000-strong crowd, predominantly Victory fans, were cut short.

After a few minutes, Lowy was able to sit up, prompting applause from the stands, before he stood up, smiled and waved, and went on to present the trophy to the winning team. He left the pitch unassisted afterwards.
Lowy had earlier been booed by a section of the crowd, along with A-League chief Damien De Bohun and FFA chief executive David Gallop, as the trio were introduced onto the stage.
FFA later confirmed that Lowy was suffering from soreness in his shoulder, but was not seriously injured.
Billionaire Lowy, the co-founder of the Westfield Group, has been chairman of FFA since 2003 and will step down from his position on the board in November.
Victory won Sunday’s match against Sydney FC 3-0 to become A-League champions for a third time.
