Don’t address me as General from May 29 – Buhari.. READ MORE

General Buhari

President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has said he should no longer be addressed with the title of General as from May 29 when he assumes office as President.Buhari said yesterday that he would prefer however to be regarded with the official title reserved for the country’s President while the Vice President-elect, should still retain
his academic title of professor. In a statement issued by his media aide, Mallam Shehu Garba, the Buhari said: “From May 29, 2015, the President-elect and Vice-President-elect are to be respectively known and addressed as Muhammadu Buhari, President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Garba displayed the official portrait of the two leaders who will be inaugurated as President and Vice President on Friday, May 29. Meanwhile, Buhari’s party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has described as mere fiction a purported list of the President-elect’s ministers widely circulated on the social media. The party distanced itself from the list and appealed to Nigerians to wait for the original one soon to be released through the appropriate channels.
In a statement issued by APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Abuja yesterday, the party said: “Nigerians should disregard these lists and await the authentic list which will be communicated through the appropriate channels at the right time. “The appeal becomes necessary following recent media reports on the actions which the President-elect will purportedly embark upon once he is sworn into office.
Various people have been quoted in the media on what the President-elect will do or will not do once he assumes office. “The truth is that these people do not speak for the President-elect, hence the need for the media to clarify on such issues with the Chairman of the party, its National Publicity Secretary or the Spokesman of the Buhari Campaign Organization. These officials are always available to clarify issues.
