A Ghana based medical doctor, Sulley Ali-Gabass, the medical practitioner who is reported to have been standing trial for defiling a 16 year-old boy, has been slammed with a 25-year jail term by an Accra circuit court.

According to reports by Graphic Online, the trial judge Rita Agyemang Budu in her ruling on Monday, July 14, pronounced him guilty on defilement. He was, however, acquitted and discharged of the second count of having unnatural carnal knowledge of the victim.

Dr. Gabass has been in custody over a two-count charge of defiling a child under 16 years and unnatural carnal knowledge, an offence he has denied.

According to the police, during the month of October 2013, Dr. Gabass arranged and met the victim at Kasoa New Market area where he forcibly had anal sex with the victim in his car in front of the Kasoa HFC Bank.

Other witnesses are the police investigator, Sergeant Osei Asiedu, and Dr Nii Aryee, a surgeon at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, who diagnosed the victim with fistula and anal rectal abscess after a surgical operation as the young victim, whose health condition is deteriorating, has been diagnosed as being HIV positive.

The counsel pleaded with the court to take into consideration the UN Charter that protects the rights of Lesbians and Gay Bi-sexual Transgender (LGBT) people as well as the recent ruling of the US Supreme Court, that paved the way for the recognition of gay marriages in all states in the United States.
